Pennsylvania's Brownfields Initiatives

Pennsylvania was among the first states to develop programs designed to encourage the cleanup and redevelopment of industrial and other sites contaminated by hazardous substances. Many of its hazardous substance cleanup programs are described in the following sites:

Pennsylvania's Land Recycling and Environmental Remediation Standards Act from PaDEP ("Act 2" of 1995).
Pennsylvania The Economic Development Agency, Fiduciary and Lender Environmental Liability Protection Act from PaDEP ("Act 3" of 1995).
Pennsylvania's Industrial Sites Environmental Assessment Act from PaDEP ("Act 4" of 1995).

Pennsylvania's Industrial Sites Reuse Program provides grants and low interest loans for environmental assessments and remediation, primarily to promote the clean up of contaminated industrial sites. The industrial use of the site and contamination must pre-date July 18, 1995. Applicants may be local governmental units or certain classes private persons who did not contribute to the original contamination.
